Terms of sale
These terms cover selling a gift card to Unspent. They are written to be read rather than skimmed past, and they say what actually happens, including the parts that are not in our favour.
Last updated September 20, 2026.
1. What this service is
Unspent buys unused gift cards outright for cash. We are the buyer, not a marketplace, an agent or an escrow service. When you accept an offer and we verify the balance, ownership of the card and its remaining balance passes to us and we pay you the agreed amount. There is no listing, and no third-party buyer is involved at any point.
2. Who can sell
You must be at least 18 years old and legally entitled to sell the card. By submitting a card you confirm that it is yours, that it was obtained lawfully, that you have not sold or promised its balance to anyone else, and that you have not spent from it since checking the balance. Submitting a card you are not entitled to sell is fraud, and we report it.
3. Offers, rates and the minimum
The rate for each brand is shown on that brand's page before you enter anything and is applied to the verified balance, not the balance you type. Most brands are 80%. Travel brands are 76% and luxury fashion is 78%. The minimum balance we will buy is $10. There is no maximum. Rates can change for future submissions, but an offer you have accepted is calculated at the rate shown at the time and does not move afterwards.
4. Verification, and what happens if the balance is different
Every card is checked against the brand's own system before payment. If the verified balance matches what you entered, we pay the offer as shown. If it is lower, we recalculate at the same rate and show you the revised offer, and no money moves until you accept it. You are free to decline a revised offer and keep the card. If the card has no balance at all, the submission is closed and nothing is paid.
5. Payment
PayPal and Cash App payments are sent within 24 hours of verification. Mailed checks take five to seven business days. We deduct no fees from any method. Payment goes to the payout details you supplied, and it is your responsibility to give them correctly — a payment sent to a mistyped PayPal address or Cash App tag cannot always be recovered. Check them before you submit.
6. After payment
A card we have paid for is ours. Do not spend from it, transfer it, or sell it again. If a card is used after we have paid for it, we may recover the amount paid. We keep a record of each purchased card for 30 days after payment so a dispute can be checked against what was actually verified.
7. Cards we decline
We do not buy every brand, and we may decline any individual submission without giving a reason beyond the one stated. Brands we do not buy are listed on the site with the reason for each. Declining a card is not a judgement about you — it is usually about fraud volume or an unreliable balance system on that brand's side.
8. Fraud and misuse
We check submissions for signs of fraud, including cards submitted more than once and unusually large or rapid submissions. We may put a submission on hold while it is checked, refuse it, or refuse to deal with an account. We report fraud to the affected brand and to law enforcement where appropriate. The site limits how many cards can be submitted from one connection in an hour.
9. Your account
You can sell a card without an account. If you create one, you are responsible for keeping the password to yourself. Tell us immediately if you think somebody else has access to it. We store only a hashed form of your password and cannot read it, which also means we cannot tell it to you if you forget it.
10. No warranty, and the limit of what we owe you
The site is provided as it is. We do the checks described above and we take them seriously, but we do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error free. Where a claim relates to a submission, our liability is limited to the amount we agreed to pay for that card. Nothing here limits liability for fraud or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The version that applies to a submission is the one published when you made it, and the date above says when this version was published.
12. Reaching us
